What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. They allow the site to remember information about your visit — such as your preferences or session state. Similar mechanisms include localStorage, which stores data in your browser without sending it to the server on every request.
On QuartzEdge, we use both cookies and localStorage. We use them only for the purposes listed in this notice. We do not use them to track you across third-party websites or for behavioural profiling unless you have explicitly enabled analytics cookies.
Cookie inventory
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration | Category |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| qe_age_ok | Cookie + localStorage | Stores your age-gate confirmation (boolean). Prevents the gate from appearing on every page load. | 180 days | Strictly Necessary |
| qe_consent_v2 | Cookie + localStorage | Stores your cookie-preference choices (analytics on/off, marketing on/off) as a JSON object. | 180 days | Strictly Necessary |
| _ga, _ga_* | Cookie | Google Analytics 4 — tracks anonymous usage sessions. Set only if you enable analytics. | Up to 2 years | Analytics (optional) |
| _gid | Cookie | Google Analytics 4 — distinguishes unique users within a 24-hour window. Set only if analytics enabled. | 24 hours | Analytics (optional) |
No marketing, advertising-network, or third-party tracking cookies are set unless you explicitly enable marketing preferences above.
Strictly necessary cookies
Strictly necessary cookies enable core functionality of the Site. Without them, the age gate cannot function and your consent preferences cannot be stored. These cookies do not require your consent under PIPEDA because they are necessary for the service to operate. You cannot opt out of them without ceasing to use the Site.
Analytics cookies
If you enable analytics cookies, Google Analytics 4 will track anonymous usage data including page views, time on page, and general geographic location (country-level). No personally identifiable information is shared with Google Analytics — your IP address is anonymised before transmission. You can withdraw analytics consent at any time using the Cookies button at the foot of any page.
Marketing cookies
By default, marketing cookies are disabled. If you enable them, advertising-network identifiers may be set that allow interest-based advertising to be served on other websites. Because this Site does not carry advertising, enabling marketing cookies currently has no effect on the QuartzEdge experience — but the consent signal is forwarded to Google's infrastructure if Google Analytics is also enabled.
How to manage or delete cookies
You can change your preferences at any time using the 🍪 Cookies button at the bottom of every page. You can also manage or delete cookies directly through your browser settings. Common instructions:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and Security → Cookies and other site data
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Cookies and site data
Deleting cookies will reset your age-gate and consent preferences and you will be asked to confirm both the next time you visit.
Changes to this notice
We may update this Cookie Notice if we add or remove cookies. The "Last updated" date above will be revised. Continued use of the Site constitutes acceptance of the revised notice.
